In a competition it is austerely forbidden that delegates or entrees or participants will never have the chance to talk behind the scene especially if it is barely between two parties, the delegate and a judge.

Recently this morning, the Miss Universe pageant forums flocked the social web in occurrence of somewhat 'scandal' to be raged in this years Miss Universe pageant.

Miss Universe China, Lou Zilin and the Miss Universe China National Director Yue-Sai Kan having a photo op with one of the preliminary judge Mr Alvaro Garnero.

Yes, Miss China is definitely a stunner to look out for. Probably The best Asian candidate (in all fairness). Standing at 6feet tall, who wouldn't recognize this living Chinese Barbie Doll?

Personally, I don't care what these guys are up to or what they had to do in a meeting. They can say everything in order to cover up behind the scenes secrets but all I wish to happen is, to have a fair judging of all the 89 candidates. All of these gorgeous women deserve to become Miss Universe.

My Thoughts

1.Judas doesn't stand for Jesus. Judas was an apostle who betrayed Jesus
2. The song uses Judas as a metaphor. She's basically saying she is in love with a guy who is a betrayer (she can't trust him).
3. "Jesus is my virtue, but Judas is the demon i cling to" means even though she conforms to righteousness she is in a relationship with such a bad man.
4. Lady Gaga isn't of the Illuminati, she is a Christian.

Now, I truly understand what Judas song is all about. Its all about a Metaphorical thought that Gaga wants to convey in the message. This isnt about religion. Its all about the power of creativity. And now its the people who reacts negatively are the ones who are close minded.

A counterfeit originality?

I believe that in the sense of this new generation, Originality is rarely accomplished. We as rational beings have our own dynamics of creativity. Function as the movers of our minds that creates a simple idea into something audacious innovation.

Recently, I chance upon on viewing the blog of Chuvaness and reading each entry. While blithely scanning, I awed to this particular campaign of Plains and Prints. Awed in a sense of mixed emotions. Astonished for having a delightful collections for summer and stunned on the Ad campaign itself. I am intimidated on how this ad came about. Because I personally confide that P&P's Summer 2011 ad is most likely the same of Louis Vuittons Spring/Summer 2010 Ad Campaign.

Can you figure out the similarities? The Model lying on the ground showcasing the Brand. And most of all the summery green plants involved that made this ad neck to neck carbon copy minus the Pigeons.

There's this editorial shot of Preview Magazine that tickled my meticulous manner. A mostly duplicate of posing from international shoot. A facsimile of how to model 101. Now I completely drawn by this so called ''Inspiration."

This last photo blew me away! An archetype of Naomi Campbell's Interview Magazine editorial October 2010. If this was a handbag, I probably say these photos are counterfeit! A replica of creativity. An imitation of ingenuity.

I know some may raised their eyebrows for this but let me say this is out of my opinions and judgements. The bottomline for this is, Creativity an ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic has gone down its worth. People in the creative media are as inventive, as resourceful, and as visionary on their field. But some may misconstrued their being 'creative' into something inspiring for a particular idea and ended up ripping off someone else's concept.

We must raise the bar of originality. Breaking the usual traditions. And together make a flawless sense of uncorrupted fresh absolute original ideas.

And for this, I rest my case. Bow.

America's Next Top Model, Cycle 16 is the sixteenth cycle of America's Next Top Model and the tenth season to be aired on The CW network. It premiered last February 23, 2011.

The winner will receive a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics, a contract with IMG Models, the cover of Beauty In Vogue and fashion spreads in Vogue Italia and Beauty In Vogue.

All three permanent judges from the previous cycle – Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley, photographer Nigel Barker and Tyra Banks herself – remain.

The international destination for this cycle is Morocco, making this the first time to be traveled in Arab world and the second time the show has traveled to Africa, the first being in Cycle 4, where the show visited Cape Town, South Africa.

But what makes this season abit exciting to our Filipino fans is that in-demand top Haute Couture Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco will showcase his awe-dropping gowns in Episode 8 on April 13 Wednesday 8/7 central on the CWTV (American Time, Manila time - Thursday).

Handbag and Accessories designer Lana Marks is a guest judge and the models endure a photo shoot with trash. Later, the girls are dismayed to learn their shoot will take place at a landfill, where they will wear eco-friendly couture creations by designer Michael Cinco and photographed by judge/photographer Nigel Barker. Handbag and accessories designer Lana Marks joins the judges' panel to decide which girl will be eliminated.

Dear Mr. Honrado:
We are staunch advocates of local tourism. We strongly believe that responsible ecotourism is a good driver of sustainable economic development. If there is anything we Filipinos can be proud of, it is the unparalleled physical beauty of our country, and the inner beauty of our people.

But those of us who travel extensively domestically and internationally know how cumbersome, inefficient and opportunistic our traveling systems are, particularly our airports and seaports.

Take the case of the gateways of the country: our airports. There has been a marked improvement in the physical facilities of our airports, for which we congratulate those responsible for it. However, there is so much that needs to be done to further upgrade our services and make it truly world-class. We respectfully invite your attention to the tedious process of checking in and of departing from all our airports — the first and last stop of all local and international travelers.

To recall, the objective of a good airport is to make travel procedures as seamless and efficient as possible. Our airports have become perfect examples of bureaucracy, inefficiency, and what airport systems should NOT be. Indeed, it is also an example of the “checkpoint mentality” of our government.

Note:
1. There are security guards who pretend to conduct a cursory check on the entering cars. They wave their flashlights in the direction of the glove compartment and pretend to look inside the trunk. In reality, what they achieve is to waste the time of the passenger and create a garrison mentality.
2. In the entry doors of the airport, there is another guard who checks the ticket and ID. At this point begins unnecessary waiting lines.
3. There is an X-ray at the main door. While there are often a number of x-ray machines, there is only one or two open, thus creating another extended queue, and another delay.

4. At the NAIA-3, yet another guard checks the ticket and ID before the check-in counter.

6. After checking in, we proceed to another line. We line up to pay an exorbitant amount of two hundred pesos (PhP 200.00) as the “terminal fee.” In all our travels around the world, only the Philippine airports collect a terminal fee. If we are so impoverished and must collect this terminal fee, can we not incorporate it in the price of the ticket? This would considerably ease the flow and movement of passengers at our airports. Institutions, such as airline companies and the NAIA administration office, are better placed to do the collection and remittances of large amounts of funds.

But that is not all. After paying this senseless terminal fee, we proceed to line up again for the utter futility discussed in no. 7.
7. A few meters after the booth where we pay the terminal fee, there is another stop where another officer called the Inspector Verifier will cut off the stub from the receipt of the terminal fee. This is especially true in NAIA-3 and in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

8. Then, after this, there is another X-ray machine. In almost all of the most airports in the world, this is the only X-ray machine that checks the hand-carried baggage. Even in the very security-conscious United States, there is only one X-ray check, and that is right before the pre-departure area.

9. Then the final check right before boarding.

This can actually be reduced to only three stages: check-in, X-ray and body check prior to entering the pre-departure area, and then at the final boarding. This is the standard used by most airports.
The process for international travel from the NAIA and PAL Centennial Airport is even worse because of the additional “checkpoints”:

1. Checking of boarding pass before entry into immigration area

2. Payment of an exorbitant terminal fee of PhP 750.00, or something like $13.45, as if people walk around with that exact change in their pockets. Worse, one cannot even pay with a credit card.

4. Checking of boarding passes before being allowed to enter the pre-departure gate

5. Another check of baggage before boarding

In the international arrival area, despite the fact that we have nothing to declare, we are made to fill up a form. This is checked by the customs officer. A few meters after the customs officer, there is another person who takes some part of the stub. Also, we are the only airport that still checks on the bag tags by more security guards at the exit door.

Most of these are not only cumbersome and downright stupid procedures, but they also create an impression that we are just putting hoops to make it difficult for tourists. We also create meaningless jobs for unemployed protégés of politicians or bureaucrats who have nothing better to do. This is a waste of people’s hard-earned money.

We respectfully request that your good office take the initiative to review this process and streamline it with the end in view. These cumbersome and repetitious processes have not made our airport and air travel any more secure. As a matter of fact, notwithstanding all these, our airports have been downgraded for its lack of security. It is not the processes that needs strengthening, rather the management of our civil aviation systems. In the news recently was a disturbing piece of information: there was damage in some aviation equipment, and the replacement part had to be ‘cannibalized’ / removed from existing damaged aviation equipment.

One must ask: where is all the money collected from the terminal fees going? Is it paying the security guards and personnel who have been placed in our airports to make our lives and travel difficult? In almost all of the airports of the world, there is no “terminal fee” being collected. If there is any payment of terminal fees at all, it is incorporated in the ticket. Incidentally, and in this respect, may we respectfully request for a financial report from your good office as to the uses of the terminal fees collected from passengers in the last five years. Despite all the monies received, as of January 2011, none of the three airports in Manila had free and consistent wireless Internet access. The pre-departure area in NAIA-1 did not even have working electrical outlets. The restrooms are still small and badly maintained. The Mactan-Cebu Airport recently installed sensor-type flushing mechanisms in their water closets, a water-wasteful technology. When checked last January 22, 2011, none of them worked! We also do not have seats allocated for the handicapped in the pre-departure areas. In other international airports around the world, there are seats near the gates for the handicapped.

While other airports around the world try to institutionalize seamless airport procedures, we are overacting to try to create a perception of security. This is not a mark of our ability to put an effective security measures. Rather, it is a mark of idiotic redundancy, utter inefficiency, and senseless and useless red tape. We end up making ourselves look ridiculous. It creates the impression that we live in a garrison state, paranoid to the nth degree, and/or are promoting unnecessary red tape right in the gateways of our country. It is a poor reflection of our people. It is also an example of a very Third World mentality — the very impression we are trying to change as a country and as a people.

Having said all these, we do not need to wonder why we have few tourists compared to our neighboring Southeast Asian countries. We have a saying in Filipino, which, when translated, means that the most difficult people to awaken are those who are already awake. Our airport officials know how utterly ridiculous these procedures are, but refuse to improve it for reasons known only to them.

There are so many other things we need to improve to make our country travel-friendly, among them having clean toilets, honest cab drivers, and traffic decongestion. But if there is one area we can work on right away to make travel to and within the Philippines easy, convenient, passenger-visitor-friendly and seamless, it is our airports — the very face of our beautiful and beloved country.

Lately, when my sister went back hometown on the first week of January, she was killing so much time of her vacation leave. From spending time with family, eating out with friends, and lastly downloading so much movies and tv series. She got the walking dead season 1, the black swan, the last airbender, easy a, etc etc etcetera. But I got hooked with this series she downloaded, Pretty Little Liars. Okey, I’m not really a big fan of US series because I hardly soak up with those too much gossiping, sex, lies, drugs, family, friends, bitches and so on. Well, aside from the Gossip Girl that made a huge hit around the world, I can say that GG was one of my favorites US tv series especially that ‘xoxo’ (But I only liked season 1 and the next seasons and the return season this year, I hardly paid attention of it na.)

Alright, go back to PLL. She downloaded it because her friend from the US said that PLL received so much good reviews and teens now loved it. And yeah, because of this curiosity on how this show is really addicting (like GG s1), so I followed my sister’s advice, download the whole season! After 14 hours and 38 mins and 43 seconds, Pretty Little Liars season 1 is now on my drive D.

I watched the first 4 episodes today, January 16, 2011 Sunday, The feast of the Infant Jesus (Viva Senyor Santo Nino!) to kill time actually. And I must say, PLL got knocked me off my vintage wooden chair! It is really good. The show itself is very good! The cast, the story line, the thrill it gives, the friendship, the betrayal, secrets, and all. It’s ‘Pretty’ great! I can’t wait how they will discover the definite time when they will see that Alison is still haunting for them.

Oh PLL, you’re so good. Please make sure that your season 2 will be much greater!

Year of the Tiger is coming to an end and we welcome the entry of the year of the Rabbit of yet another resolutions. Resolutions that may be a leverage of goals to reach. A dream to fulfill. An obstacles to overcome and a life to treasure.

It has been a year of sweet dreams and a beautiful nightmares. Just like Gaurou (Carrie's personal assistant at the Abu Dhabi hotel) of Sex and the City 2 said to Carrie Bradshaw/Preston, " my wife and I see each other only once every 3 months. Time doesn't matter but when we see each other, It's Wonderful!" I wish that everyone sees Life as an uplifting emotion to create a harmony full of positive attitude.

As 2011 is fast approaching, may I elaborate the things that I long to have this Christmas, birthday or New year. I intent to put my birthday and new year because I know that these things may not come under my christmas tree on the eve of 25th. If none of it will be a 'dream come true' moment from someone, at least I have the full of 2011 to have it. On my own expense. *smile *laughs.

It's official. Rustan Coffee, the sole licensee of Starbucks Coffee International in the Philippines, confirmed that Starbucks CDO will have its grand opening next month.

SB is located at Parking A of Limketkai Mall.

The structure is almost complete. Timely for next months' opening. You may say that the exterior is quite boring, but lets just say they will surprise us in their interior. Grandiloquence perhaps.!?

Exactly one week ago, Miss Kagay-an 2010 was held at The Atirum. with 12 lovely candidates vying for the prestigious title. It was a decision of two, whether to attend my company's Pop fiesta concert or watch the pageant night. Oh well, the rain didn't stop pouring that day since 3 in the afternoon, I opted to watch the pageant night just because the concert arena had to be in open air.

So here comes the big night. It started with opening prayer, cultural numbers and the opening act. The first part of the event was on hiatus. Where the crowd gone wild when VMayor Acenas zipped his way down from the 2nd level of the atrium to the pageant stage. He opened his speech and boast CdeO to be the adventure capital of the Phils (really?) and so on....

Okey stripped down on the core of the night. It has always been a pageant failure when there is so much plugging, killing the time, dead air segments, corny hosts icebreakers and whatsoever. I happened to comment on how the show came from 10 to 3 ratings. mygoodness. These are just my judgments.

4. The stage was like a huge mural of coral. It's like that they borrowed ocean park for a night.

3. Repetitive of the sidecourt hosts speeches. It was cyclic!

2. The Gowns! My Goodness the gowns. The moment when the first candidate came out, I knew it its gonna be a 2009 rundown (if you know what I mean). In my opinion you just can't let the other lady wear The Same Exact Design of the other. I'm pretty sure that some of the judges are dismayed of the long gown competition. The excitement had just gone with the wind. Remember this is a Beauty Pageant not a Fashion Show. Please. You can do better.

1. What made the Pageant night even become tedious, is the Host. He's by far the most undecided, not-ready-to-become-host-of-the-night. I feel sorry for him. Didn't the organizers brief him days before? Because as I remember, during the 1st Q&A segment, he just made up an impromptu queries. Looking in to his papers back and forth and thinking if this would be the best question to ask. Mygoodness. You can do better.

Local Beauty Pageants or even nationals are still stucked on the old tradition. Maybe next time we should be keen enough to adopt the style of how International Beauty Pageants do their airing. Not so much flaws, quick and alert, and go down to the core.

And good thing is, we were rooting for Ms Jeminah Ferrer to win and she did! JEM for the win!

Latest Perspective of Ayala Mall CdeO

Shown above is the latest perspective of the proposed Ayala Mall in Cagayan de Oro City taken from City Hall…unless another one will be posted onsite in weeks to come.

Based on the latest design, the mall will still have three levels. The anchor store on the left (along Capt. Vicente Roa) is reportedly Robinsons Department Store, same with that of Abreeza in Davao. Quite interesting as clearly shown is the boutique hotel on the right rising above the mall.

The boutique hotel shown below is I think 10 storeys high and will become a landmark structure in this area.

Construction work (pile driving) will reportedly begin in October.

The latest design is better than the first two.

1st. Based on the perspective, it will be 4-storeys high, with a rotunda on the lower left and an 11-storey (or is it 17-storey?) BPO at the south end of the property.

The hotel and BPO component are fully integrated into one huge building complex. I think Ayala maximized the use of the prime lot which has been idle for so many years. It’s safe to assume that the hotel (around 10 storeys) is the one at the corner of CM Recto and Corrales Avenue while the BPO (approx. 5-6 storeys) will be at the other corner of CM Recto and Capt. Vicente Roa Street.

Well, what made me more grateful is that they will retain the two old huge trees. Those trees deserve a new owner that will be taken care of but nonetheless by the name of Ayala. Huge SMILE for Me!

The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy.

Asian Carmakers Corp., the official distributor of BMW vehicles in Philippines, is hoping to arm more Filipinos with technical and industrial skills through an additional training facility to be established in Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City.

The company has contributed P72.3 million for the construction of the Jose Ch. Alvarez (JCA) Technology Complex reportedly inside the Manresa campus. The university’s Center for Industrial Technology (CIT) will be transferred to the said facility which is expected to be completed next year.

Students enrolled in the programs to be offered at the JCA Technology Complex will have the option to train in BMW dealerships. They also have a chance to be absorbed by the company.

“I personally believe in the value of having good education and I recognize the talent of the Filipino youth and their need for progressive educational institutions,” Asian Carmakers chairman Jose Ch. Alvarez said.

The JCA Technology Complex will offer automotive technology as one of its courses and students enrolled in this program have the option to undergo training at different BMW dealerships and eventually get absorbed into the company

Celine Dion's Aquatic Wonderland!

Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil recently had a mansion constructed for their family in Florida. This new project costed the couple $20million (£13.9million) and a lot of neighborhood racket. An aquatic wonderland, this 9,825 square feet home is also located in the proximity of the ocean. Its exact location is on Jupiter Island, where some of the wealthiest stars live. The miniature water park includes two pools, two water slides and a small river with a generated current in order to carry the water around, which makes the total water amount needed for the system to work equal to 500,000 gallons. Apparently the construction of the house brought some serious complains from the community, as the construction of this system led to a drought on the island. The residence houses eight bedrooms, an underground garage, a large wardrobe and a gym. We are looking forward to your impressions on this post.

Preview Magazine criticize by foreign watch cats on a Alexander Mcqueen rip off cover

Okey, after browsing some fanpages in facebook I track upon on a forum bashing on the latest cover of Preview Magazine. It is in the TheFasshionSpot.com forum.

Weeks before this issue came out, I already have an idea that Preview will take a lead on having tribute of the late Alexander McQueen. Now the time comes and preview fans (such as myself) grab a copy of this fashion bible. As I scan and read through the pages, I must say that the current issue, June 2010 is there best by far in terms of fashion statement, fashion reports 101, beauty and health area, latest gossip and all that jazz. And the premier of Preview Men envelope the aesthetic of a bold and provocative fashion magazine.

But just so you know, the tribute of McQueen was a 'shameless, embarassing knock-off' to some other foreign fashion cats. Some of their comments I find it very offensive but behind their messages tells a story of what really conspires the message: Truth Hurts. And yes, I definitely understood and balance the momentum of both the critiques and preview mag team.

Despite drawing flak for some glitches and amid a handful of election protests, Smartmatic officials brought to the country a beauty from their homeland Venezuela as a “token of gratitude” for allowing them to become part of the Philippines’ first automated polls.

Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza, visited the country as Smartmatic’s “Ambassador of Transparency.”

“I’m very excited about the Philippines. I do want to congratulate you guys for the successful elections,” the 5’9″ stunner told a press conference Tuesday.

Smarmatic’s Global Chief Executive Officer Antonio Mugica said Mendoza’s visit was also to show how much they appreciate the success of the automated elections.

“It has already become a worldwide reference for automated elections,” said Mugica, who also noted that the recently concluded election was “the most complex and the most advanced automated elections in the world.”

Mendoza is also set to visit Tondo to help Smarmatic carry out their social causes, including the distribution of at least 50 laptops in a public school in Tondo, Manila.

Prior to winning the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Mendoza was a model in Venezuela.

I guess this is what you’ve all been waiting for….the revised rendering of Ayala Mall Cagayan de Oro. As you can see, the proposed development will cover the entire Floirendo property fronting Gaisano Mall along CM Recto Avenue.

Based on the above plan, the mall’s main entrance will be at the frontage along CM Recto Avenue with side entrances along Capt. V. Roa and possibly along Corrales Avenue as well.

Interestingly, Ayala incorporated some of their sustainable architecture with the “center tree” at the middle of the complex. I think they will retain the existing tree found at the center of the property.

Based on my info, the basement where the parking area will be located is designed to be 1.5 meters above street level.

So this is an initial glimpse of the much awaited Ayala Mall which is expected to start pile driving come August, at the earliest possible time. Coincidentally, it’s fiesta time in the city - what a time to celebrate.

Imagine an almost 10mins video with so much non-sense devouring the whole film. I love the Alejandro song, it's catchy and makes you dance the Tango but for the video..?! Like? The Commencement Address by Paul Hawken to the Class of 2009, University of Portland, May 3, 2009

When I was invited to give this speech, I was asked if I could give a simple short talk that was “direct, naked, taut, honest, passionate, lean, shivering, startling, and graceful.” No pressure there.

Let’s begin with the startling part. Class of 2009: you are going to have to figure out what it means to be a human being on earth at a time when every living system is declining, and the rate of decline is accelerating. Kind of a mind-boggling situation… but not one peer-reviewed paper published in the last thirty years can refute that statement. Basically, civilization needs a new operating system, you are the programmers, and we need it within a few decades.

This planet came with a set of instructions, but we seem to have misplaced them. Important rules like don’t poison the water, soil, or air, don’t let the earth get overcrowded, and don’t touch the thermostat have been broken. Buckminster Fuller said that spaceship earth was so ingeniously designed that no one has a clue that we are on one, flying through the universe at a million miles per hour, with no need for seat belts, lots of room in coach, and really good food—but all that is changing.

There is invisible writing on the back of the diploma you will receive, and in case you didn’t bring lemon juice to decode it, I can tell you what it says: You are Brilliant, and the Earth is Hiring. The earth couldn’t afford to send recruiters or limos to your school. It sent you rain, sunsets, ripe cherries, night blooming jasmine, and that unbelievably cute person you are dating. Take the hint. And here’s the deal: Forget that this task of planet-saving is not possible in the time required. Don’t be put off by people who know what is not possible. Do what needs to be done, and check to see if it was impossible only after you are done.

When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer is always the same: If you look at the science about what is happening on earth and aren’t pessimistic, you don’t understand the data. But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren’t optimistic, you haven’t got a pulse. What I see everywhere in the world are ordinary people willing to confront despair, power, and incalculable odds in order to restore some semblance of grace, justice, and beauty to this world. The poet Adrienne Rich wrote, “So much has been destroyed I have cast my lot with those who, age after age, perversely, with no extraordinary power, reconstitute the world.” There could be no better description. Humanity is coalescing. It is reconstituting the world, and the action is taking place in schoolrooms, farms, jungles, villages,campuses, companies, refuge camps, deserts, fisheries, and slums.

You join a multitude of caring people. No one knows how many groups and organizations are working on the most salient issues of our day: climate change, poverty, deforestation, peace, water, hunger, conservation, human rights, and more. This is the largest movement the world has ever seen. Rather than control, it seeks connection. Rather than dominance, it strives to disperse concentrations of power. Like Mercy Corps, it works behind the scenes and gets the job done. Large as it is, no one knows the true size of this movement. It provides hope, support, and meaning to billions of people in the world. Its clout resides in idea, not in force. It is made up of teachers, children, peasants, businesspeople, rappers, organic farmers, nuns, artists, government workers, fisherfolk, engineers, students, incorrigible writers, weeping Muslims, concerned mothers, poets, doctors without borders, grieving Christians, street musicians, the President of the United States of America, and as the writer David James Duncan would say, the Creator, the One who loves us all in such a huge way.

There is a rabbinical teaching that says if the world is ending and the Messiah arrives, first plant a tree, and then see if the story is true. Inspiration is not garnered from the litanies of what may befall us; it resides in humanity’s willingness to restore, redress, reform, rebuild, recover, reimagine, and reconsider. “One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice,” is Mary Oliver’s description of moving away from the profane toward a deep sense of connectedness to the living world.

Millions of people are working on behalf of strangers, even if the evening news is usually about the death of strangers. This kindness of strangers has religious, even mythic origins, and very specific eighteenth-century roots. Abolitionists were the first people to create a national and global movement to defend the rights of those they did not know. Until that time, no group had filed a grievance except on behalf of itself. The founders of this movement were largely unknown — Granville Clark, Thomas Clarkson, Josiah Wedgwood — and their goal was ridiculous on the face of it: at that time three out of four people in the world were enslaved. Enslaving each other was what human beings had done for ages. And the abolitionist movement was greeted with incredulity. Conservative spokesmen ridiculed the abolitionists as liberals, progressives, do-gooders, meddlers, and activists. They were told they would ruin the economy and drive England into poverty. But for the first time in history a group of people organized themselves to help people they would never know, from whom they would never receive direct or indirect benefit. And today tens of millions of people do this every day. It is called the world of non-profits, civil society, schools, social entrepreneurship, non-governmental organizations, and companies who place social and environmental justice at the top of their strategic goals. The scope and scale of this effort is unparalleled in history.

The living world is not “out there” somewhere, but in your heart. What do we know about life? In the words of biologist Janine Benyus, life creates the conditions that are conducive to life. I can think of no better motto for a future economy. We have tens of thousands of abandoned homes without people and tens of thousands of abandoned people without homes. We have failed bankers advising failed regulators on how to save failed assets. We are the only species on the planet without full employment. Brilliant. We have an economy that tells us that it is cheaper to destroy earth in real time rather than renew, restore, and sustain it. You can print money to bail out a bank but you can’t print life to bail out a planet. At present we are stealing the future, selling it in the present, and calling it gross domestic product. We can just as easily have an economy that is based on healing the future instead of stealing it. We can either create assets for the future or take the assets of the future. One is called restoration and the other exploitation. And whenever we exploit the earth we exploit people and cause untold suffering. Working for the earth is not a way to get rich, it is a way to be rich.

The first living cell came into being nearly 40 million centuries ago, and its direct descendants are in all of our bloodstreams. Literally you are breathing molecules this very second that were inhaled by Moses, Mother Teresa, and Bono. We are vastly interconnected. Our fates are inseparable. We are here because the dream of every cell is to become two cells. And dreams come true. In each of you are one quadrillion cells, 90 percent of which are not human cells. Your body is a community, and without those other microorganisms you would perish in hours. Each human cell has 400 billion molecules conducting millions of processes between trillions of atoms. The total cellular activity in one human body is staggering: one septillion actions at any one moment, a one with twenty-four zeros after it. In a millisecond, our body has undergone ten times more processes than there are stars in the universe, which is exactly what Charles Darwin foretold when he said science would discover that each living creature was a “little universe, formed of a host of self-propagating organisms, inconceivably minute and as numerous as the stars of heaven.”

So I have two questions for you all: First, can you feel your body? Stop for a moment. Feel your body. One septillion activities going on simultaneously, and your body does this so well you are free to ignore it, and wonder instead when this speech will end. You can feel it. It is called life. This is who you are. Second question: who is in charge of your body? Who is managing those molecules? Hopefully not a political party. Life is creating the conditions that are conducive to life inside you, just as in all of nature. Our innate nature is to create the conditions that are conducive to life. What I want you to imagine is that collectively humanity is evincing a deep innate wisdom in coming together to heal the wounds and insults of the past.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once asked what we would do if the stars only came out once every thousand years. No one would sleep that night, of course. The world would create new religions overnight. We would be ecstatic, delirious, made rapturous by the glory of God. Instead, the stars come out every night and we watch television.

This extraordinary time when we are globally aware of each other and the multiple dangers that threaten civilization has never happened, not in a thousand years, not in ten thousand years. Each of us is as complex and beautiful as all the stars in the universe. We have done great things and we have gone way off course in terms of honoring creation. You are graduating to the most amazing, stupefying challenge ever bequested to any generation. The generations before you failed. They didn’t stay up all night. They got distracted and lost sight of the fact that life is a miracle every moment of your existence. Nature beckons you to be on her side. You couldn’t ask for a better boss. The most unrealistic person in the world is the cynic, not the dreamer. Hope only makes sense when it doesn’t make sense to be hopeful. This is your century. Take it and run as if your life depends on it.

I met Leo Allen Pangilinan last November during the launch of Daphne Oseña Paez's beddings for Linens Direct.

I was supposed to be there at 6 PM. At 5 PM Daphne was texting me to hurry up as some "fans" were waiting for me at Megamall.

Allen was one of them.

Five days ago, Allen failed to appear at his workplace in Ortigas.

According to his close friends, this is what happened on February 10:

"Allen's shift was supposed to start at 3 PM. Instead, he worked at home for a couple of hours then at around 5 PM, he left the house for work. He told his mom that he will go home at 12 midnight, the original end of his shift. At 4:30 the next morning, his mom woke up and her youngest son asked her where Allen was. She checked his room and found that the bed hadn't been slept in. So she tried calling the office but wasn't able to contact Allen. Later that morning, she contacted his friends and some colleagues. His office confirmed that he didn't enter the office on Feb. 10."

He was last seen wearing this green striped polo shirt and khaki pants. He had his laptop, cellphone and ATM card. Friends say he could have withdrawn that day, as it was his company's pay day.

He is 22 years old, around 5'4" to 5'5" tall and 120-130lbs.

You might want to check account movement in his bank account. You mentioned his atm was with him. I had an officemate who went missing late last year, similar situation but around paranaque area. Apparently, when she was released a day after, she shared that she was abducted by a syndicate who asks their victims to withdaw money from their atm account until they exhaust the full balance. THE biggest mall in Mindanao is soon to rise in Cagayan de Oro. Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) said they will start the construction of the P4.5 billion Ayala Mall and Business Center at the heart of the bustling Cagayan de Oro’s business district this year.

The new shopping mall, which will be constructed in its newly-acquired property at Claro M. Recto Avenue (fronting Gaisano Mall), will be ALI’s biggest mall in Mindanao, much bigger than Davao City’s P3 billion Ayala Mall set to be completed by 2012.

Cagayan de Oro city mayor Constantino Jaraula said this is the biggest investment of the company on the island of Mindanao.

“Once completed, this Ayala Mall, the biggest in Mindanao, would make the city the major shopping destination and further boost Cagayan de Oro as a haven for investment,” Jaraula said.

Cagayan de Oro is home to the country’s biggest malls. SM City has established its P1 billing mall at the uptown Upper Balulang; world class Limketkai shopping complex is continuing its expansion with more malls, hotels, and business establishments under construction; Ororama Mega Store is undergoing renovation after it was struck by fire last year; among others.

Aside from more investment opportunities it may ring, it will also provide job for thousands of jobless residents of the city and neighboring provinces, Jaraula said.

The city government has already given the company a go signal to start the construction phase of the project even as their papers are yet to be completed.

In 2006, Ayala Land Inc. also launched Alegria Hills, the 53-hectare high end residential subdivision that lies 240 meters above sea level and approximately eight kilometers from the city proper. It is the first phase of a master planned 200-hectare property that straddles Brgys. Indahag, Macasandig and Camaman-an.

The project is a joint undertaking of ALI and joint development partners Manny Boniao and Ricardo Murillo. Started by the Boniao couple as a land banking project in 1993, they were joined by Mr. Murillo 20 years ago when he also became convinced of the development potential of the property.

Mr. Boniao cited the city government’s South Diversion Road and Emmanuel Pelaez bridge as concrete evidence of the city government’s all-out support for the project.

“Although this initiative was already in the drawing boards of previous administrations, it was former Mayor Vicente Emano who actually implemented it as a strong show of support for investors,” Mr. Boniao said.

Jaraula said that Ayala’s move indicates the company’s confidence in the city’s vibrant economy.

Other ALI high-end residential projects include Ayala Alabang, Dasmarinas Village, Forbes Park Makati, Ayala Westgrove Heights, Ayala Greenfield Estates, Amara, Ayala North Point, The Residences at Greenbelt, One Serendra and Anvaya Cove.

Dolphins slaughtered in Japan

There is a new film that is already stirring up a lot of controversy. When films are released for the whole world to see and they target the culture of a nation, controversy is sure to come with it. This new film is dubbed “The Cove,” and it focuses on some practices of Japanese fishermen.

Based on what the film portrays, Japanese fishermen allegedly lure wild dolphins into a hidden secret cove in Japan. According to activists, these dolphins are then captured for sale to amusement parks and for food as well. The Cove is actually a documentary which follows the pursuits of a group of activists led by Ric O’Barry. He is in fact an ex-dolphin trainer and he used to be in the TV series Flipper.

The film is already shown in the United States but, unsurprisingly, no release date has been announced for Japan. The Japanese government maintains its stance that they are not doing anything wrong and that have not been doing anything wrong. More so, they have also cited cultural differences as the reason behind the misunderstanding.

In spite of this official stand, critics and audiences have already given the film a lot of praise. In fact, it won the audience award at the Sundance Film Festival. The goal of the activists is to shut down the cove for good and to save the dolphins.

I have not seen the movie myself, but I would like to. At least if I do, I can judge it for myself.

Hollywood blockbuster 'Avatar' surged to a box office haul of more than $1 billion globally on sunday, faster than any other movie in history, an industry tracker reported.

Aided by consecutive holiday weekends and pricey 3-D tickets, total domestic sales for the science fiction epic reached $352 million and an eye-popping $670 million internationally, according to estimated figures by Exhibitor Relations.

The astronomical performance since the movie's debut 18 days ago has already sealed its reputation as one of the most impressive box office performers of all time.

"It was the fasteest ever to the $1 billion-mark," with "Avatar" now the third biggest grossing film ever, behind "Titanic" (1997) and "The Return of the King" (2003), the final movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, box office analyst Chad Hartigan of Exhibitor Relations told AFP.

"Avata" tells the story of paralyzed war veteran Jake Sully, who is sent on a mission from Earth to the planet Pandora, where he falls in love with a blu humanoid named Neytiri of the alien Na 'vi race.
